After proving himself as one of the Championship's most reliable shot-stoppers, Carl Rushworth has finally made his loan move to Coventry City permanent. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has signed a long-term deal with the Sky Blues following a breakthrough season at the CBS Arena.

The move represents a significant moment for both player and club. Rushworth, who arrived at Brighton & Hove Albion from Halifax Town in 2019, had spent seven years at the Amex without making a senior appearance, instead enduring six different loans across the Football League. His opportunity in the Midlands last season proved transformative.

Playing in all 46 of Coventry's league matches, Rushworth was instrumental in their remarkable Championship triumph, keeping 17 clean sheets as the club ended a 25-year exile from the Premier League. His performances earned him the Championship's Golden Glove Award for 2025-26—a recognition of his consistency when it mattered most.

The financial details underscore his newfound importance. Though neither club has publicly confirmed the fee, the deal is reportedly worth a club record £22 million.

"I'm really happy, there's so many emotions that I've got," Rushworth said upon completion of the move. "There's excitement, I can finally relax knowing it's done and that I'm back with the boys and at a club I loved being at."
